The New Year's Concert from Vienna

A Viennese tradition, on the road

On its world tour the Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra from Vienna — made up solely of the city's finest musicians and vocal soloists — performs a repertoire drawn from the world-famous concert broadcast on television every New Year's Day and watched by millions of viewers around the globe.

During the tourist season the orchestra gives daily concerts in the historic Orangery of Schönbrunn Palace, where the coveted tickets sell out quickly to an international audience.

“No one performs Viennese music the way Viennese musicians do.”

Year after year the orchestra tours the world, met everywhere by concert-hall directors and critics who say the same thing. A guest appearance by the Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra — in such demand across the world — is a rare and special occasion.

When the orchestra visits the leading concert halls of Scandinavia, audiences enjoy beloved classics, many of them familiar from the New Year's broadcasts. And every concert closes, as tradition demands, with the Radetzky March, the audience clapping along under the conductor's direction.

The Orchestra

Schönbrunn Festival Orchester Vienna

Since 2015 the renowned Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra has performed under a new name — Schönbrunn Festival Orchester Vienna — formerly known as Schloss Schönbrunn Orchester Vienna.

An internationally sought-after chamber ensemble with genuine Viennese roots, distinguished by its refined line-up, its charming presentation and its elegant appearance on stage. The orchestra has performed throughout Sweden and far beyond, touring Denmark, Finland, Japan, China, Australia, the USA, South America and Russia.

Its repertoire centres above all on the works of W. A. Mozart, the Strauss family and their contemporaries. The ensemble upholds the Viennese musical tradition and brings long experience of working alongside leading operetta singers.
